2-EH is a common ingredient in sunscreens (octocrylene) and also used in the production of 2,4-D (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid), a common herbicide that selectively kills most broadleaf weeds.
2-ethylhexanol is primarily produced by the hydroformylation of propylene. This is normally done in a self-contained plant, or more commonly as the first step in a fully integrated plant that would also make n-butanol and isobutanol.
Examples of applications
Production of plasticizers such as diester bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
